What is MIZBERING?

“MIZBERING is a public-private cooperative project to explore new possibilities for utilizing Japan’s waterfront space. Its name is derived from “MIZUBE + RING (circle)” and “MIZUBE + R (renovation) + ING (in progress),” which means that citizens, businesses, and the government are working together to achieve a sustainable waterfront future.”
MIZBERING Concept
“Behind the nationwide development of the MIZBERING Project is a situation in which waterfronts have been turned into drainage channels and turned away from the cityscape due to efficiency-oriented river maintenance since the period of rapid economic growth. In recent years, redevelopment projects have been undertaken by the private sector to take advantage of the waterfront. In an era of increasingly serious disasters, there is a need to create new waterfront areas that will serve as the face of the city.。
The three basic concepts of MIZBERING are as follows
・Wise use of rivers and waterside spaces in the town
・Proactive participation of private sector companies and other private sector energies
・Social design involving citizens and businesses
Based on these concepts, we contribute to the creation of a sustainable waterfront future, not only by “creating” waterfronts, but also by “utilizing” the surrounding area and culture.
